Malta Cities
Malta has a number of cities on the few inhabited islands from the Malta Archipelago.
Valletta
Valletta is the capital of Malta and it's a very small city, spread across only 1 square kilometer, which you can visit from one point to another in around 20 minutes.
This city is an old fortified city that is extremely well preserved and a great architectural piece. Valletta was made by the Knights of Saint John, right after the 1565 Great Siege happened, where the Ottoman Empire was defeated.
While the city is small, it has hundreds of steps, so you should have good legs and quality walking shoes. The views of the sea are absolutely magnificent, as the city is located on a promontory, which has curtain walls and great bastions around it.
Bugibba
Located in the Saint Paul's Bay area, Bugibba actually consists of 3 small towns. It's a city that was influenced quite a bit by tourism, with traditional houses being replaced by hotels.
If you want to eat here the choices are few, as most people coming here have package deals and don't need to eat out.
Cottonera
This area is also known as Three Cities, since it's composed of Senglea, Vittoriosa and Cospicua, three cities located in the same area. This area is inhabited since the times of Ancient Greece and it always been the most important port town of Malta.
Getting to Cottonera takes only around 15 minutes if you take the bus from Valletta.
Mdina
Mdina is a small city that can be reached in 30 minutes from Valletta by bus. You can't take a car inside the walls of the city if you're not a local, and even if you could, the streets are usually too narrow.
This city is more than 3000 years old and until the 16th century it was also the capital of Malta.
It only takes you 10 minutes to visit the city from one point to the other, and it's very beautiful to enjoy. The best part of the city is the cathedral that was built in the beginning of the 18th century and its museum.
