There are two main vaccines that are recommended for travelers to have when going to Malta, for diphtheria and tetanus.
Drink and foods
Tap water usually contains chlorine and should be safe to drink. However, if you can afford drinking bottled water, it's advisable, at least during the initial weeks in Malta. You can eat safely vegetables, seafood, meat, fruit and poultry.
Health
If you're a European Union citizen, health care is available to you either at a reduced cost or for free, if you have the EHIC (European Health Insurance Card). If you're not a EU citizen, you should have a comprehensive travel insurance.
