Holidays In Malta

Near the centre of the Mediterranean Sea lays the Maltese archipelago, including the islands of Comino, Comminotto, Filfla, Gozo and Malta. Being visited by many cultures, it has been considered a great strategic base since the beginning of navigation.

About the third millennium BC, the first influential civilization that prospered here left behind compelling megalithic temples.

Visitors may explore citadels surrounded by medieval walls, gorgeous baroque palaces and churches, discover where Christendom has been defended by the Knights of St John, or retrace St Paul’s footsteps, digging up the mysterious prehistory of the Maltese islands, considered one great open-air museum.

Anyhow, history isn’t the single thing that attracts the annual summer flood of tourists that triples Malta’s population. Splendid clear blue waters, sandy beaches and secluded bays also draw visitors to glimpse upon them and the secured traditional villages that are still sparse along the landscape and celebrating cheerful festivities.

In May 2004, Malta joined the EU, 40 years after achieving it’s independence from Britain in 1964.
